Enjoy the Neighbourhood
The river and the forest, tradition and modernity, architectural wealth and diversity
An old and mostly residential neighborhood, which today is the scene of enormous diversity. From the older inhabitants, to foreigners, to students who attend the universities of Tapada (Instituto Superior Técnico) or Alto da Ajuda, the labyrinthine streets of this neighborhood also house all kinds of traditional shops and street shops, palaces, gardens and some embassies. The emblematic Calçada da Ajuda, located there, borders the wonderful Lisbon Botanical Garden and the Palace of Belém and ends in the famous neighboring neighborhood of the same name.
